LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Governor Jim Pillen traveled to Texas on Wednesday to see the Nebraska troops he deployed to assist in securing America’s southern border.

The daylong visit was accompanied by Speaker John Arch, Senator Tom Brewer, chairman of the Legislature’s Government, Military and Veterans Affairs Committee and Major General Craig Strong, Adjutant General for the Nebraska National Guard. They met with National Guard airmen and soldiers who were deployed to the Del Rio area since early April.

Pillen said that Nebraska’s commitment has been critical in helping stop the influx of criminals, weapons, drugs and human trafficking into the United States.

During Pillen’s visit with the troops, he thanked them for their sacrifice in volunteering for this mission.

“They have taken time out of their normal work and family lives to take on a challenge that is important to our nation,” Pillen said. “I join fellow Nebraskans in sharing our gratitude for their service.”

The group of about 35 troops will be there until late June or early July on active duty supporting the Texas National Guard.
