Nebraska softball team splits pair of games on Friday

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – The No. 18 Nebraska softball team split a pair of games Friday at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge in Mexico. The Huskers dropped their first game of the day to No. 11 Duke, 6-1, before rebounding to defeat Long Beach State, 7-2.

Billie Andrews produced Nebraska’s lone hit against the Blue Devils, a leadoff home run in the seventh inning that spoiled a potential Duke shutout.

In game two against Long Beach State, Nebraska had six extra-base hits (five doubles and one triple). Billie Andrews went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a triple while Brooke Andrews was 1-for-2 with a double and four RBIs.

Kaylin Kinney was the pitcher of record in both games Friday. She started and took the loss against Duke before earning the win with 4.0 shutout innings of relief against Long Beach State. Kinney finished Friday allowing five runs (three earned) in 9.0 innings.

Offensively, Billie Andrews went 4-for-7 on Friday with two doubles, a triple and a home run. She accounted for four of Nebraska’s nine hits on the day.
