Nebraska pitcher enters transfer portal

Nebraska right-handed pitcher Cooper Katskee entered the transfer portal on Monday night. Katskee had a tremendous junior season for the Huskers.

He served the roles of both midweek starter and a beacon reliever for Nebraska. He began his career with the Indiana Hoosiers and stayed there from 20223 to 2024. He then transferred to Miami (Ohio) before landing in Lincoln.

Katskee posted a 5.71 ERA over 63 innings. One of his best performances of the regular season came against Omaha on March 3. He struck out 10 batters across six scoreless innings.

This is the fifth departure for the program in the transfer portal. Nebraska has made several solid additions as well, looking to revamp the roster after a successful season.

Katskee certainly made valuable contributions in Lincoln, and it will be exciting to see what he does in his next chapter.

Nebraska is the only state in the nation where certified nurse midwives — registered nurses with advanced training — can’t assist with home births. Nebraska is also one of only two states that requires physician supervision of nurse midwives.

Nebraska running back arrested in Florida on aggravated battery charge

KEY WEST, Fla. (KOLN) – A Nebraska football running back was arrested in Florida on Monday.

According to jail records, 20-year-old Mekhi Nelson is accused of aggravated battery involving a pregnant woman in Key West, Florida.

Details about the alleged assault are limited. 10/11 News has made a request for more information with the Key West Police Department.

He will be arraigned in court on July 9 at 9 a.m.

The sophomore has been with Nebraska since 2024. He played 12 games with one start during the 2025-26 football season.

Nelson is still listed on the Nebraska football roster as of Monday afternoon.

10/11 News contacted Nebraska Athletics for a statement and received the following response:

“The Nebraska Athletic Department and football program are aware of the arrest of Mekhi Nelson in Florida. We have no further comment at this time.”

Heartland Nebraska group presents Quilts of Valor to six veterans

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) – Six veterans were honored Saturday, June 27, as Heartland Nebraska Quilts of Valor presented handmade quilts to service members “touched by war.”

Organizers said the Quilts of Valor National Foundation has awarded 447,658 quilts to active-duty military members and veterans since it began.

The Heartland Nebraska Quilts of Valor group has presented 204 quilts since starting its local chapter in 2019.
