Nebraska inmate serving time for manslaughter dies in Lincoln hospital

A North Platte man discovered responsible of killing his girlfriend and hiding her dismembered physique in a trash barrel died Tuesday in a Lincoln hospital.

John Epting Sr., 72, was serving a 25- to 40-year sentence for manslaughter and first-degree assault on the state jail in Tecumseh. His sentence started in November of 2006. 

The reason for demise has not but been decided, in keeping with an announcement from the Nebraska Division of Corrections, however Epting was being handled for a medical situation. Each time somebody dies in custody, state regulation mandates {that a} grand jury conduct an investigation.

Epting was discovered responsible within the demise of Michelle Bernt-Masters, 40, on Oct. 25, 2005. She was present in a trash barrel at Epting’s dwelling in North Platte. Investigators mentioned Epting beat her to demise.
