GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) – The animals at the Central Nebraska Humane Society are getting a boost from the Grand Island Casino.

The money came from their ‘Giving Back Program’. The program works by guests donating $10, then the casino would give them $10 in free slot play, then that money goes to a different non-profit each month.

Todd Wainwright is the president of the humane society’s board, and he says partnership with other parts of the community is important.

“We operate as tight a budget as we can at the Central Nebraska Humane Society, so every dollar really matters, and when we get an organization such as this to reach out to offer to donate nearly $4,000 goes a long way for the care and treatment of the animals,” Wainwright said.

Grand Island Casino Director of Marketing Alison Nicholson said this month was a personal mission for her.

“My whole life I have worked with, you know, either the Humane Society or the rescues,” Nicholson said. “My grandfather instilled that in me many, many years ago, and so in a way it’s, it’s honoring his legacy by still giving back. Plus, great animals. People don’t realize that you can find your best friend out there.”

Nicholson said if anyone wants to donate and get the free play, they should go to the Resort Club inside the casino for more information.
