Former Husker Volleyball Coach John Cook honored by Nebraska Unicameral
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Former Nebraska volleyball coach John Cook was honored Wednesday on the floor of the Nebraska Legislature, recognizing his 25-year legacy with the program.
Cook was joined by University of Nebraska President Dr. Jeffrey Gold as lawmakers celebrated his contributions to the state and his recent retirement.
“Today we have the opportunity to thank Coach Cook in person for his contributions to the state of Nebraska and congratulate him on his well-earned retirement. Appropriately, he is visiting today on ‘I Love NU Day,‘” said Sen. John Arch.
During the event, Sen. Arch mistakenly referred to Cook as the former football coach, drawing stunned looks and laughter from those in attendance. He corrected himself and apologized, and Cook and lawmakers exchanged greetings under the south balcony.
The recognition coincided with “I Love NU” Week, which runs from March 31 to April 4. The celebration includes “I Love NU” Day at the Nebraska State Capitol, set for 1 p.m. Wednesday.
Earlier this year, Sen. Don Lonowski introduced a resolution, LR 39, which was adopted to formally thank Cook for his contributions to the state and congratulate him on his retirement.
