COLUMBIA − The public is invited to attend informational meetings on updates of a conceptual study of U.S. Route 54.

The meeting will address corridor improvements on a 55-mile segment of U.S. 54 in Ralls, Audrain and Pike counties, between Mexico and Louisiana.

The study began last summer after it was added to Missouri’s Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan, according to a news release from the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT).

Public informational meetings will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17 in the cafeteria of Community R-VI School; and from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18 in the auditorium of Bowling Green High School.

Locations for passing lanes and shared four-lane improvements on Route 54 have been identified, the news release said.

The project is not currently funded and a timeline for implementation has not been determined, according to the release.

The meetings will be open house style and will have no formal presentation. Several displays showcasing the corridor study will be available, as well as MoDOT representatives and consultants, the release said.

All information shown at the public meeting will be available online beginning Oct. 17.
