On Your Side: Missouri’s attorney general announces Top 10 scams for 2023
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey announced the top ten most common consumer complaints handled by his office in 2023.
Advocates in the Complaint Unit of the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) take reports and work to mediate complaints between consumers and businesses or individuals. When mediation efforts are unsuccessful, the AGO’s investigators investigate alleged fraud, and attorneys file lawsuits or charges when applicable. The AGO’s Consumer Protection Division obtained $32,177,058.47 in judgments/settlements for the state of Missouri, recovered $12,653,836.14 in restitution for Missouri citizens, and handled 59,822 consumer complaints and inquiries in 2023.
”As Attorney General, I want my office to be a voice for Missouri consumers,” said Attorney General Bailey. “As we kick off National Consumer Protection Month, I want to arm Missourians with information that protects them from falling victim to scams. The Attorney General’s Office will continue fighting robocalls, shady contractors, and any others who attempt to rip off Missouri consumers.”
The top ten consumer complaints in 2023:
1. No-Call ComplaintsThe top form of complaints submitted to the AGO in 2023 was ‘No Call’ complaints. This typically deals with illegal telemarketing calls and No-Call violations. 2. AutomotiveThe AG’s Office received numerous complaints from consumers regarding automobiles, automotive dealers, and automotive repair shops. 3. Real Estate and ConstructionComplaints involving home repair contractors were among the most common type of complaint received by the AGO.
4. Retail/WholesaleMost of the complaints regarding retail and wholesale companies dealt with purchases made through the internet, telephone, or mail, and involved late deliveries or products that were never delivered.
5. FinancialFinancial complaints typically involved foreclosures, debt collection, loan servicing, and other products, services, and practices by banks, mortgage companies, debt collectors or other financial institutions.
6. Communications/Technology/Online ServicesMany of these disputes involved telephone cramming and billing practices where consumers received a bill for services that they didn’t order or were charged unauthorized fees from third parties.
7. Travel/TimesharesThese complaints typically concerned allegations of companies promising to resell timeshares and failing to do so, failing to provide deeds, charging undisclosed fees, and unexpectedly or continuously increasing various fees.
8. Solicitations/Publications/SubscriptionsThese complaints generally involve the receipt of mail and phone solicitations regarding sweepstakes, lottery, and other scams.
9. HealthHealth-related complaints from consumers included billing issues regarding hospitals and doctor visits, supplemental purchases, and disputes regarding health insurance payments.
10. ProfessionalMany of the calls regarding professional services involved concerns with moving companies, delivery companies, towing, funeral homes/cemeteries and special events, etc.”To report fraud or deception, visit our website at www.ago.mo.gov or call 800-392-8222,” said Attorney General Bailey. “My office is here to help.”

Bet on Missouri vs. Kansas with the DraftKings MO promo code
Missouri fell to Notre Dame in its last outing, and things don’t get any easier on Sunday when it faces Kansas. It remains unclear whether or not star freshman Darryn Peterson will suit up for the Jayhawks. No matter which bet you plan to make, grab today’s DraftKings Missouri promo code to wager with bonuses.
The Tigers haven’t faced a lot of tough competition yet. In fact, their best win is against Minnesota, which is ranked outside of the top 100 according to KenPom. The Jayhawks, meanwhile, have faced and lost to North Carolina, Duke and UConn. They did pick up a win over Tennessee.
The matchup to watch in this contest will be Missouri’s Mark Mitchell against Flory Bidunga of Kansas. Mitchell is a versatile big, but he could struggle inside against Bidunga, who is averaging over two blocks and nearly nine rebounds per game.

How To Watch Kansas Basketball vs Missouri in Border Showdown
After falling as the No. 1-ranked team in the country on the road in Columbia last year, the Kansas Jayhawks are determined to get their revenge on their cross-state rival, the Missouri Tigers.

- This season: Kansas fell to 6-3 on the season earlier this week after losing a home game to No. 5 UConn. The Jayhawks have gone 5-2 without Darryn Peterson in the lineup. KU’s best wins so far have come against Tennessee and Syracuse. Missouri was previously undefeated before falling to Notre Dame on the road in the ACC/SEC Challenge. The Tigers boast one of the best offenses in the SEC, though they have not taken on much competition so far, with their best win coming against Minnesota.
- Series history: Kansas holds a 176-96 lead in the all-time series, which extends all the way back to 1907. The Jayhawks have won nine of the past 11 meetings, though Missouri came out on top last year in an upset victory.
Meet the Coaches
- Dennis Gates, Missouri: Gates just began his fourth year at the helm in Columbia. Across a little over three years, he has amassed a 63-47 overall record, including a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances.
- Bill Self, Kansas: Self is one of the greatest coaches the game has ever seen, and throughout his lengthy tenure at KU, has dominated the Tigers. He is 19-5 against Missouri all-time and will look to make it 20 wins over MU.

Reasons to sign up with the FanDuel MO promo code
Bonuses and promotions are a big reason why FanDuel MO is a worthwhile sportsbook to sign up for in the Show Me State. Of course, new customers in Missouri will be welcomed with $300 in bonus bets after placing a $5+ initial wager, but that’s not where the offers end.
FanDuel supplies daily bonus opportunities for all users. You will always find some combination of profit boosts, parlay boosts, same game parlay boosts, no-sweat bets and more. I recommend checking the “Promos” tab on Saturday to see what offers they have for the Big 12 Championship Game.

Bet on the Big 12 Championship Game with the FanDuel Missouri new-user bonus
Best bet: Texas Tech -12.5 (-115 odds at FanDuel)
AT&T Stadium will play host to the 2025 Big 12 Championship Game, which features two schools that aren’t accustomed to playing in this high-profile event. The Texas Tech Red Raiders are sizable betting favorites over the BYU Cougars.
These two teams squared off just a few weeks ago. Texas Tech dominated the game, holding BYU to seven points. This matchup features a pair of top-15 scoring defenses, with the Red Raiders allowing less than 12 points per game.
I like Texas Tech to handle BYU once again, and yes, they need to win by at least 13 points to cover the spread, but that’s something I believe the Red Raiders will accomplish.
