State Patrol: Minnesota deputy unable to stop before striking bicyclist who ‘failed to yield’
A girl biking on the Heartland State Path in northern Minnesota Thursday was struck by a Cass County deputy driving a Chevy Tahoe.
In keeping with the Minnesota State Patrol, the deputy was northbound on sixth Lake Rd. when he struck the 63-year-old Iowa Metropolis lady on the intersection with the bike path.
The State Patrol says the girl and one other bicyclist “did not yield to a cease signal coming into the lane of visitors,” and that regardless of the bicyclists and the deputy attempting to keep away from the collision, the collision wasn’t averted.
The opposite bicyclist wasn’t struck, however the lady who was hit was first taken to a hospital by ambulance and air care. The crash report says she was not carrying a helmet and suffered injured that aren’t thought of life-threatening.
The deputy was recognized as 35-year-old Ryan Huston, of Akeley, Minnesota.
The Heartland State Path stretches 49 miles between Park Rapids and Cass Lake.
