So Minnesota: James Elwell, the man behind the mattress
As we head to mattress at evening, we should always keep in mind a Minnesotan who has helped us all get evening’s sleep.
In 1872 whereas rising up in Minneapolis, James Elwell was solely 16 when he invented and patented a bedspring with a wire mesh.
The invention remains to be used to today.
“It’s sort of an important story,” Orville Lindquist with the Blaine Historic Society mentioned. “He discovered a necessity, met the necessity, and had a chance along with his household that would manufacture is invention.”
Cash from the invention allowed Elwell to open the Minneapolis Furnishings Firm.

Elwell went into land and later turn into a state senator selling parks and roads.
“He was a proponent of constructing good roads all through the state,” Lindquist mentioned. “By 1915, he precipitated a thousand miles of freeway to be inbuilt Minnesota.” Elwell died in 1933.
