Red Wing’s Belisle leads southeastern Minnesota golfers with top-20 finish at State Am

EDEN PRAIRIE — Purple Wing native Cecil Belisle battled to a top-20 end at Minnesota’s most prestigious newbie golf championship, the 119th Minnesota Golf Affiliation Novice Championship, on Wednesday.

Belisle adopted an opening-round of 3-over-par 75 with back-to-back rounds of 76 to complete in a three-way tie for twentieth at Olympic Hills Golf Membership.

The previous two-time highschool particular person state champion at Purple Wing not too long ago wrapped up a stellar junior school profession at South Mountain Neighborhood School in Phoenix. Belisle received two consecutive Nationwide Junior School Athletic Affiliation Division II particular person championships, and he led South Mountain to the crew championship this spring.

Belisle will end his school profession at Division I College of Kansas, starting this fall.

Former College of Minnesota golfer Ben Greve captured his first State Am title, main wire-to-wire on his residence course. Greve opened with a scorching 6-under 66 on Monday, then fell again to the pack with rounds of 73 and 79, hanging on to win by one stroke over Jack Ebner of Windsong Farm.

Greve, a two-time State Open champion, is married to Gophers girls’s basketball coach Lindsay Whalen.

Different southeastern Minnesota golfers who made the lower for Wednesday’s ultimate spherical included Nick Jarrett of Somerby in Byron, who tied for twenty fifth (14-over par); Pine Island’s Anders Larson, who completed tied for thirty second (15-over); and Ben Meyer of Austin Nation Membership, 58th (23-over).

Larson, who led Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa to its first-ever highschool state championship final month, will play at Division I Tennessee Tech, starting this fall. Larson was the Part 1AA particular person runner-up and positioned third individually on the Class AA state meet this spring.
