Bygones: 40 years ago, Minnesota provided temporary jobs to Iron Rangers

• The Minnesota Legislature final week authorized a $7.5 million package deal offering 9,000 four-week jobs for unemployed Iron Vary residents. The Vary has been hit by a nationwide droop in steelmaking that has induced layoffs within the mining trade and different native companies.

• The Duluth Metropolis Council has revoked licenses for all fuel pump stations situated on the curb on Superior Avenue between Fifth Avenue East and Eighth Avenue West. The order requires the elimination of the pump stations situated on these blocks.
• Building now underway on the Common Portland Cement Firm’s plant in Morgan Park ought to end in a 40% improve in portland cement manufacturing on the plant. The work contains the addition of a brand new 200-foot kiln for burning uncooked materials and a dust-collecting equipment.
