Skenes dominates Milwaukee Brewers in loss to Pirates

(WNFL) – Paul Skenes pitched 7 innings of no-hit ball to lead the the Pittsburgh Pirates to 1-0 win over the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field in Milwaukee on Thursday.

Skenes who allowed only 1 walk joined Nolan Ryan as the 2 pitchers who have multiple starts of 6-plus innings where they struck out 11 or more batters.

Pittsburgh scored its only run in the seventh inning on a double by Yasmani Grandal that scored Jack Suwinski.

The Brewers finished with just 2 hits – singles by Josh Bauers and Garrett Mitchell.

Aaron Civale took the loss for the Brewers, allowing 1 run on 6 hits and 2 walks over 6 1/3 innings. He struck out 6.

After the game: With today’s loss, the Brewers dropped their first home series since 4/26-4/28 vs. the Yankees (1-2), snapping a run of nine straight home series victories…..Milwaukee fell to 21-12 against the National League Central, including 5-5 vs. Pittsburgh…..the Brewers dropped to 15-15 in 1-run games this sesaon…..it was the third 1-0 loss for Milwaukee this season (last 5/22 at Miami)…..the Brewers were shut out for the sixth time this season (last 6/11 vs. Toronto)…..Milwaukee was held to its fewest hits (2) since 8/15/23 at Los Angeles-NL (2h) and its fewest hits in a home game since 6/3/22 vs. San Diego (1h)…..the Brewers are 1-2 on their current 6-game homestand against Pittsburgh (1-2) and Washington (3g).
