Milwaukee man arrested in low-speed pursuit through Fond du Lac
FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WBAY) – A 32-year-old man from Milwaukee is in the Fond du Lac County Jail facing charges after a low-speed chase through Fond du Lac.
A Ripon police officer reported a car going the wrong way on S. Macy St. with no headlights or taillights at 9:30 Wednesday night.
Minutes later, a Fond du Lac police officer spotted the car near E. Johnson St. and N. National Ave. The driver failed to pull over for a traffic stop and continued into a residential area.
More Fond du Lac police and county deputies responded, giving verbal commands to the driver, who continued driving around Elm Acres Dr.
Throughout the pursuit, the driver stayed near the speed limit and obeyed traffic signals but ignored the police.
Police set up a stop stick, which deflated at least one tire, but the driver kept going. They set up more stop sticks on Morningside Dr., but the driver kept going.
Finally, a county deputy conducted a PIT manuever to bring the car to a controlled stop on the 1000 block of Bluehill Ave.
The pursuit lasted 14 minutes and only covered about 2½ miles.
The driver was cited for first-time OWI and is jailed on possible charges of felony fleeing and eluding and resisting an officer.
