Bucks Seeks 30th Win

The Milwaukee Bucks are seeking their 30th win of the season. Milwaukee continues to shine, winning four of their last five games propelled by a barrage of scoring. This includes a 143-142 overtime home win against the Kings last week.  The only loss in that span was a 135-95 road loss to the Cavaliers on Wednesday. They rebounded with a 141-135 road win against the Pistons on Saturday. The Bucks have covered the spread in one of their last five games.

Giannis Antetokounmpo has scored at least 30 points in two of his last three performances. The 29-year-old star power forward did not play on Wednesday and returned on Saturday. He has recorded an average of 31.2 PPG. He scored 22 against the Pistons last month and 31 on Saturday. Damian Lillard has scored at least 25 points in three of his last four clashes. The 33-year-old point guard had his best game of the season against the Pistons, netting 45 points. Lillard is now averaging 25.5 PPG on the year. Khris Middleton has shot below 43% in three of his last four games. The veteran forward is posting an average of 14.4 PPG on 48% shooting.

The Bucks are 2-3 in their last five road games but did not cover the spread once that span. Milwaukee has netted at least 130 points in three of their last five games and is scoring an average of 124.5 points on the year, marking them second. They are conceding an average of 120.6 points, placing them 25th.

Pistons Competitive in Another Loss

The Detroit Pistons are eying their fifth win. The Pistons are obviously having a disastrous season but have been competitive recently. They lost by just two points to the Rockets last weekend and replied by earning a convincing 129-117 road win against the Wizards early last week. Detroit covered in a 124-117 loss to Minnesota on Wednesday and was marked 13.5 point dogs in the loss on Saturday. The Pistons have covered in four of their last five games.

Cade Cunningham has not played since early this month due to a knee injury. The 22-year-old point guard is not expected to return for this one. He is averaging 22.8 PPG on the season. Bojan Bogdanovic has been relied upon heavily recently. He has netted at least 20 points in two of his last four bouts. The 34-year-old forward sunk 24 points against the Bucks in December and 19 points on Saturday. He has registered an average of 19.8 PPG. Jalen Duran has been outstanding, connecting on at least 50% of his field goals in each game this month. The 20-year-old center has reported an average of 14 PPG.

Detroit is 0-5 in their last five home games including a loss to the Spurs, covering on three occasions in that span. Detroit is averaging 112.4 points on the season, marking them 24th. They have conceded at least 130 points in three of their last five bouts and are squandering an average of 123 points, pegging them 28th in the NBA.

The Milwaukee Bucks continue to dazzle, winning four of their last five games. The Detroit Pistons continue to lose most games. They did recently manage to beat a Wizards team that only has eight wins but that’s it for the month.

Furthermore, the Bucks continue to dominate in the offensive end, averaging 120.7 points per 100 possessions, good for 2nd in the NBA compared to a weak Pistons offense that is only posting 110.4 points per 100. They continue to play without scoring leader Cade Cunningham. While the meeting between these squads was close on Saturday, the Pistons shot 56% from three-point range which I can’t see happening in the rematch.

Prediction: Milwaukee Bucks -11.5

I expect plenty of scoring. The Bucks are piling on the points. They have scored at least 129 points in four of their last five games. They collected 145 points against Detroit last month in a game where the over easily delivered and posted 141 points on Saturday.

In addition, the Pistons are showing an increase in offense. They have scored at least 117 points in three straight games. Defensively, they continue to be exploited, conceding at least 124 points in seven of their last ten games. Milwaukee will attempt a ton of threes and the Pistons are marked 27th in the NBA in three-point defense. The over is 4-1 in the Pistons’ last five games against a divisional opponent.

MPS layoffs plan draws pushback as district works to close $46M gap

MPS layoffs plan draws pushback as district works to close M gap

Milwaukee Public Schools is planning to cut roughly 200 positions next school year as the district works to close a multi-million-dollar budget gap — but there’s disagreement over which roles will be impacted.

What we know:

District leaders say the goal is to close a roughly $46 million shortfall, prompting changes that Superintendent Brenda Cassellius says are necessary.

Milwaukee Public Schools said about 201 staff members will be impacted. District leaders say no classroom teachers, counselors or social workers will be cut — something the teachers’ union disputes.

The reductions stem from a previously approved plan to eliminate about 260 non-classroom roles. The final number dropped after retirements and existing vacancies. The Milwaukee Board of School Directors approved that plan on March 9.

What they’re saying:

“We have a $50 million deficit, we are for sure not going to be able to do business the same way that we’ve been able to do business,” Cassellius said. “Change is just hard. It’s just hard. And every single one of our employees is so important.”

But some educators say the cuts go too far.

“MTEA is setting up a distress signal. We are talking about our teachers, art teachers, music teachers, physical education teachers, counselors — things that the voters of referendum of Milwaukee actually voted for,” said Ingrid Walker-Henry, president of the Milwaukee Teachers’ Education Association. “Staffing is being cut to the extent that they are concerned about student safety.”

Cassellius acknowledged the uncertainty and asked school leaders for patience.

“We just have to for sure know our budget situation, where we’re at with that after these cuts are made in order to make those decisions,” she said. “So I’m asking my principals, be patient with us.”

By the numbers:

The district outlined the 201 affected positions as:

  • 70 central office roles
  • 62 educators with a teaching license but not assigned to one classroom
  • 59 assistant principals

MPS says the savings will support new class size guidelines, including:

  • 18 students per teacher in K3
  • 20 students per teacher in K4
  • 22 students per teacher in K5

District leaders say no students will be asked to leave a school to meet class size guidelines. Officials say they are working with schools that may not have space or that require larger classes based on specific programs.

Brewers finally announce cable, satellite TV channels for broadcasts

play

Just before the pitch clock hits zero, the Milwaukee Brewers released a rundown of channels on cable and satellite for game broadcasts, mere hours before the 1:10 p.m. CT first pitch on Opening Day, Thursday, March 26.

The club said channels include 1263 on XFinity, 670 on DirecTV, 1743 on U-Verse, and 319 or 469 on Spectrum. The broadcasts are also listed as available on streaming service Fubo.

The Brewers are pointing fans to a channel-finding tool on their web site at Brewers.com/watch, though in the moments after the announcement, the channel finder was not yet locating details for Spectrum customers for Milwaukee-area zip codes. A club spokesperson said Major League Baseball was aware of the error and the games would indeed air on Spectrum in Milwaukee.

The built-in Spectrum guide still showed Channel 308 as the “BREW” offering in Milwaukee, with Brewers Live Pregame scheduled to begin at noon CT and baseball at 1 p.m. March 26.

With the February announcement of a switchover from FanDuel Sports Wisconsin to Major League Baseball productions in 2026, MLB negotiations have gone down to the wire with the various providers around Wisconsin. Several teams covered by Main Street Sports, which operated the FanDuel brand, have been in a similar boat this offseason.

Brewers fans aren’t alone in experiencing the late-arriving channel information. Maury Brown of Forbes has been keeping track of all the late-arriving channel announcements for teams around baseball, specifically those that were covered by the Main Street Sports. As of 7 a.m. March 26, the Royals, Rays, Tigers and Braves also still hadn’t released channel listings.

Streaming customers who used the FanDuel Sports Wisconsin app in previous years can use the new Brewers.TV option to once again watch games. The opener is also one of 10 games simulcast on over-the-air channels this season, including WITI-TV (Channel 6) in Milwaukee.
