Some Michigan officials can’t go to Russia anymore

Sixteen Michigan officers have been completely banned from touring to Russia, per an inventory printed by the nation’s Overseas Ministry final month.

State of play: The Russian journey ban applies to just about the whole Michigan delegation to Congress, together with Sen. Gary Peters and native Reps. Brenda Lawrence (D-Southfield), Debbie Dingell, (D-Dearborn), Rashida Tlaib (D-Detroit) and Fred Upton (R-St. Joseph).

  • Two extra: Longtime former Michigan Rep. Sander Levin and son Andy Levin (D-Bloomfield Township), who took over his father’s district, are additionally banned.

The intrigue: Michigan’s different senator, Debbie Stabenow, doesn’t seem on the ban checklist.

  • A request for remark from Stabenow’s workplace wasn’t returned.

Between the traces: The checklist was introduced in retaliation in opposition to U.S. sanctions issued over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Axios’ Jacob Knutson writes.
