Police find 4 dead goats, 140 illegal marijuana plants in Southwest Michigan

CALHOUN COUNTY, MI — Police found four dead goats during an investigation of an animal welfare compliant and discovered an illegal indoor marijuana grow while checking for other animals.

On Saturday, March 9, Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were called to the 300 block of Cooper Street in Pennfield Township for an animal welfare complaint. The remains of four dead goats were found on the back side of the property, Michigan State Police said.

A search warrant was drafted for the property to see if there were any other animals on the property, police said.

An illegal marijuana grow operation was located in one of the buildings on the property during a search on Sunday, March 10, police said.

More than 140 plants were seized from the property, along with other equipment, police said.

Police did not release other details about possible charges in the case.
