Michigan State football transfer heading to other Big Ten program
Anthony Jones is heading back to the West Coast.
The well-traveled defensive lineman who spent last season at Michigan State before entering the portal again committed to UCLA via social media late Thursday night.
Jones posted 25 tackles, including 3.5 for a loss, and two sacks last season in his lone year as a rush end with the Spartans. He is joining a fourth Big Ten school in as many years after stops at Oregon and Indiana prior to arriving in East Lansing.
Michigan State is under pressure to improve its pass rush after going six straight games without a sack last season. The Spartans also head into the fall without an established playmaker on the end.
Second-year coach Jonathan Smith added transfers at EDGE in the winter in Wisconsin’s Anelu Lafaele and Air Force’s David Santiago. The Spartans also have spring transfer commitments from Texas Tech’s Isaac Smith and Georgia State’s Cam Williams.
Jones is one of six Michigan State scholarship players to enter the portal in the last month and the first from that group to announce a new school.
