Michigan DNR holds free weekend for fishing and more activities
WEST MICHIGAN — The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is encourgaing all Michiganders to explore all state parks, as a “Three Free” weekend takes place.
This weekend, two full days of free fishing, free usage of ORV vehicles, and a waiver of recreation passport are included, according to the DNR.
Michigan residents and out-of-state residents can fish, ride off-road trails, use boating access sites free of charge.
“Whether you’re an avid outdoorsperson or someone just beginning to explore all the options, our ‘Three Free’ Weekend makes it easy to pursue a new passion, visit a new park or introduce friends and family to an outdoor experience or place you love,” Acting DNR Director, Shannon Lott, said.
On Saturday and Sunday, “Three Free” includes:
- Free fishing for all in-season species, without a license
- Legally ride state-designated routes and trails without the purchase of an ORV license or permit
- Waiver of the recreation passport, granting access to Michigan’s 103 state parks
- Access to state-managed boating sites
With recent dry conditions, the Michigan DNR says to pay attention to fire safety rules.
The Michigan DNR is also warning other to practice safe trail etiquette and to “ride right.”
