In the past, the Wolverines have been contenders to not only win the Big Ten, but also compete at the national championships. However, it has not been as easy for the maize and blue as prior seasons. The strength of the conference has been getting to Michigan throughout the year, especially with so many top-ranked programs. The Wolverines limp into Sunday after losing back-to-back meets to rival Ohio State and Penn State.

Against the No. 1 Nittany Lions, Michigan was skunked 39-0.

The Spartans have been having an even worse season. Though they have performed well in non-conference action, MSU has struggled mightily against Big Ten foes. The green and white has dropped all six conference meets, including a 25-12 beating at the hands of Wisconsin last week.

Coming into Sunday, Michigan is 11th in the conference, 3.5 games back of Penn State. Michigan State is dead last as the only winless team in conference action.
