10-year-old seriously injured after ATV flips in vacant Kansas City lot

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A 10-year-old sustained serious injuries after she attempted to drive an ATV through a vacant Kansas City lot over the weekend but flipped instead.

The Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department says that just after 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, emergency crews were called to the area of 55th and Myrtle Ave., east of Swope Pkwy., with reports of an ATV collision.

When first responders arrived, they said they found a 10-year-old girl had been driving an ATV through a vacant lot. As she climbed uphill and accelerated, the ATV flipped and threw the child to the ground.

Investigators noted that the child’s mother rushed her to a nearby hospital where she remains for treatment of life-threatening injuries. No further information has been released.
