Sunday’s recreation: Clippers 5, Cubs 2

Recap: Tyler Freeman was 3 for five and Alex Name and Mike Rivera every had two hits because the Clippers gained 5-2. Columbus broke a 2-2 tie within the eighth inning. Name opened the inning with a ground-rule double. Bobby Bradley walked, after which Cubs pitcher Dakota Mekkes (0-1) was ejected. Erich Uelman changed Mekkes, and David Fry moved the runners over with a sacrifice bunt. Uelman deliberately walked Mitchell Tolman, then walked Rivera for the go-ahead run. The Clippers added two extra runs within the ninth, with Bradley scoring Freeman on a sacrifice fly earlier than Will Benson scored on a handed ball. Clippers starter Peyton Battenfield pitched 5 scoreless innings, hanging out two and strolling three. Kirk McCarty (1-0) allowed two runs in 3 1/3 innings of aid, and Ben Krauth bought the save.
