Wawa, a popular convenience store chain known for its fresh food and friendly service, is hosting a preview event in Indianapolis to officially introduce itself to the community and share more details about its first phase of expansion plans into the Indiana market.

The NCAA National Headquarters, located in Downtown Indianapolis, will host the event, which a variety of stakeholders will attend. Wawa leadership, state and local officials, representatives from Riley Children’s Hospital and Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana, VIP customers, and even Wawa’s beloved mascot, Wally Goose, will be present for the multi-day event.

The Indianapolis preview event is part of a three-state, five-stop Community Partnership Tour that Wawa is hosting across the region. The tour will familiarize Wawa with the communities it plans to expand to and enable it to learn more about their needs.

The anticipated impact of Wawa in Indiana

Wawa’s commitment to supporting local communities is evident through its partnerships with Riley Children’s Hospital – one of the leading pediatric hospitals in the country – and Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana – the largest food bank in the state. Moreover, Wawa has pledged to support both organizations through financial donations and volunteerism.

Additionally, Wawa’s expansion into Indiana expects a positive impact on the local economy. The company plans to create hundreds of new jobs and invest millions of dollars in new construction. Wawa is also committed to sourcing products and services from local businesses whenever possible. Wawa leadership will further elaborate on the economic impact of bringing the chain to Indy during the upcoming event.

Last Spring, CEO Chris Gheysens told the Philadelphia Business Journal that the company is pushing for the “most aggressive growth” in its history. Since the interview, the popular retailer has nearly doubled its store count through its expansion plans.

The Wawa multi-day community partnership tour makes a stop in Indianapolis Sept. 28. The presentation from Wawa leadership begins at 10 a.m., followed by a community toast to the heroes of healthcare at 1 p.m.
