Retired firefighter, family displaced after lightning causes house fire

A former firefighter and his household have been displaced Monday after their house on Indianapolis’ northeast aspect was struck by lightning and caught hearth.  

Doug Bish retired in 2016 after a 25-year profession with the Indianapolis Fireplace Division. He lived within the 8000 block of Cardinal Cove East along with his spouse Grace Bish, 33-year-old daughter and a cat, in response to the hearth division.  

No accidents have been reported within the hearth.  

Firefighters have been dispatched round 3:30 p.m. after a number of individuals referred to as 911 to report a hearth Monday.  

Grace Bish advised firefighters that she heard and felt lightning strike the home within the space of the chimney.  She was working in her workplace and the strike broken the pc and different electronics she was utilizing, in response to the Indianapolis Fireplace Division.

The household referred to as 911 and evacuated the home. They have been packed and set to go away for a trip Tuesday. Heavy smoke and hearth have been coming from the house’s roof and basement upon arrival of firefighters, in response to the hearth division.  

The lightning strike traveled from the chimney to the basement and did in depth harm to the attic space, higher stage of the house and basement. 

The household has owned the home since 1986 and has insurance coverage. The hearth division’s sufferer help unit was on scene to work with the insurance coverage firm for shelter and to safe the home after the hearth, in response to the division.
