Man’s death in Haughville was homicide, IMPD says

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The death of a man found early Tuesday in Haughville was a homicide, Indianapolis police said.

At 4 a.m., Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to a death investigation in the 700 block of Arnolda Avenue. That’s a residential area near North Tibbs Avenue and 10th Street.

Police arrived and found a man with trauma injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Marion County Coroner’s Office will release the man’s name after his family members have been notified.

IMPD says one adult was taken for questioning but no arrests have been made.

Tuesday’s homicide is the thirteenth in Haughville since the start of the year. It comes less than 24 hours after Haughville business owners and community leaders said they were concerned the city is putting crime-fighting and public works resources in other areas.

Robert Laster, a pastor, told I-Team 8’s Richard Essex that he and other business leaders believe the city is treating Haughville differently because it doesn’t have, among other things, an entertainment district.

“A life is a life, and we want to get the same and we want to get the same acknowledgment, the same support, the same resources to help us right here in Haughville, ” Laster, who is on a Haughville leadership council, said.

Laster and other leaders asked city leaders for equal treatment. IMPD responded to the comments by saying its officers have “made adjustments based on conversations with residents” including foot patrols, vehicle patrols at night with lights activated, and a trailer camera that was placed at a recent block party.
