Jonathan Taylor Trade Destinations: The best fits for the Indianapolis Colts running back

The Jonathan Taylor vs. Indianapolis Colts war of words doesn’t seem to be ending anytime soon. The disgruntled running back wants out of Indy, and the Colts have apparently finally given in to his request.

But the Colts have placed a hefty price tag for any teams interested in trading for Taylor. Which teams are willing to dish out the draft capital to make it happen? Let’s run through some options that make sense.

Miami Dolphins

The dot connecting puts the Dolphins at the forefront of possible teams. They were in on Dalvin Cook all summer but were unwilling to pay him too much money for just this season. They drafted De’Von Achane in the 3rd round of the previous draft, but he hasn’t been up to snuff so far.

With Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson Jr. unable to stay healthy for full seasons, head coach Mike McDaniel could choose to go younger and more talented with Taylor. Adding a reliable rusher with home-run hitting ability to pair with speedsters Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle would make the Dolphins an offensive juggernaut.

Buffalo Bills

The Bills are already explosive enough with Josh Allen leading the charge through the air and on the ground. But running back is still a bit of a question mark in Buffalo. Veteran Devin Singletary left in free agency, and he was their most relied-upon back a year ago. Second-year player James Cook looks promising, but he has a slight frame and is still unproven.

Slower vets like Damien Harris and Latavius Murray aren’t primed for big roles, and Taylor would step right into a high-octane offense while providing solidity in medium-to-short yardage situations, as well as a safe pair of hands on dump-offs.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles made plenty of moves at the position in the offseason, but they seem to be employing a hodgepodge of runners in their backfield. Rashaad Penny is on a one-year deal but hasn’t appeared in more than 10 games in a year since his rookie season. D’Andre Swift is explosive, but the Detroit Lions were so disappointed in him and his durability that they traded him to the Eagles for a 4th round pick in 2025. Kenneth Gainwell will play a passing-down role.

It would be hard for the Eagles to justify yet another running back acquisition, but the team is trying to win a Super Bowl. Adding a 24-year-old All-Pro behind an elite offensive line and next to Jalen Hurts would increase the team’s chances of taking home the Lombardi Trophy next February.
