Indianapolis FOP endorses Republican Cyndi Carrasco for Marion County prosecutor

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indianapolis Fraternal Order of Police introduced on Thursday the candidate they’re backing within the race for Marion County prosecutor.

FOP President Rick Snyder says the group will again Cyndi Carrasco, a Republican.

Carrasco was appointed because the state’s Inspector Common in 2015 beneath then-governor Mike Pence and, extra lately, served as Deputy Common Counsel and Ethics Officer to Gov. Eric Holcomb.

She’s going to face incumbent Ryan Mears, a Democrat, in November.

Snyder and the FOP have been vital of Mears on the problem of inmates launched on bail.

“He’s proactively taking steps to create a foul relationship with legislation enforcement,” Snyder stated. “I believe the query for voters in Indianapolis is, why would he try this? Why would anybody looking for that workplace deliberately attempt to create an adversarial relationship with police?”

Mears launched an announcement following the endorsement announcement, saying his workplace took a pledge to not settle for police union endorsements or contributions:

“The Mears for Indy marketing campaign reaffirms our pledge to the Indianapolis neighborhood to reject marketing campaign contributions and endorsements from legislation enforcement unions. In July of 2020, we signed a pledge to reject any contributions from police unions as prosecutors being on the “political payroll” of police unions is inappropriate and unethical. The prosecutor’s workplace should stay unbiased from police.”
