Indianapolis church providing hope and resources for refugee families

INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis northside church is doing what it might to assist 1000’s of African refugees really feel welcome in Indiana this Thanksgiving.

Wednesday, New Heights church gave out care packages crammed with meals for Thanksgiving. Garments, mattress sheets, towels, and extra.

The aim is to assist the refugees with something they could want.

The concept happened after two pastors grew to become mates.

One from Africa and one other one from Indianapolis.

David Bates and Kenneth Johnson determined to associate as much as present sources for refugees.

“We’re simply being right here standing within the hole for some individuals who do not have something,” Johnson stated. “They arrive over with only a suitcase with some tattered garments, a number of occasions they do not have something. Not even language so.”

It is one thing the refugees say they’re grateful for after fleeing conflict, violence, and different unsafe situations.

Muhindo escaped from Congo and has been dwelling within the US since 2007.

She is a single mom of 5 and says sources like these are useful.

The transition hasn’t been straightforward for Muhindo, particularly with inflation.

Bates is a pastor for the Ebenezer Indy African Church.

He was born and raised in Africa and traveled to the USA from Kenya for school.
