If you’re planning to take your family out for an Easter egg hunt on Sunday, bring your rainboots. The National Weather Service is calling for a wet weekend in the Indianapolis metro area.

Saturday will continue to be rainy with a chance of thunderstorms before 2 p.m. Temperatures will reach a high of about 65 degrees. There’s a 30% chance of light rain continuing overnight, according to the NWS.

Saturday’s scheduled Carmel Marathon was canceled as a result of the inclement weather, event organizers announced. Numerous other outdoor activities and sporting events across the metro area were either postponed or moved indoors due to heavy rainfall Saturday morning.

The sound of tornado sirens awoke many Hamilton County residents shortly before 6 a.m. Saturday, as a strong thunderstorm brought lightning, heavy rain and a shelter warning from the NWS.

“It looks like late tonight we’ll probably have a break,” NWS meteorologist Greg Melo said.

The odds of heavy rain will increase toward daybreak on Sunday morning, and there’s a chance of thunderstorms from about 8 a.m. until the early afternoon. The day will be warm, with a high of about 74 degrees.

If kids want to go look for Easter eggs, “it looks like tomorrow afternoon would be a good time,” Melo said.

Another storm system will come in Sunday evening, again bringing the potential for more severe weather. If you’re outside and hear a clap of thunder, move the festivities inside.

There’s a “non-zero threat” of a strong storm late Sunday, but it would likely be west of Indianapolis, Melo said.

Easter morning will be warm with a high of about 74 degrees, but showers are expected to continue into the afternoon. Thunderstorms are possible after 8 a.m.

Forecasters expect a break from the rain in the afternoon before showers pick back up in the evening.

Sunday evening will be cloudy with scattered showers, and the temperature will drop to about 63 degrees. Thunderstorms are a possibility.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Neighbors in Indianapolis believe a theft ring is responsible for snatching nearly a dozen French Bulldogs from front yards. It comes after I-Team 8 first reported on multiple Yorkies disappearing in the same way last summer.

Now, neighbors say they believe the same thieves are targeting Frenchies.

For 274 days, Indianapolis woman Peggy Allawat has crossed off her calendar, marking another day since her beloved Yorkie, Lil’ Bit, was snatched from her neighbor’s front yard. With every day that passes, more dogs are going missing.

Many of them are being stolen from the northeast and east sides of the city.

“There’s been at least 11 Frenchies missing since March,” Allawat said.

Allawat goes everywhere with two things in hand: a bag of documents with information on her missing Yorkie and a microchip scanner for dogs. She brings the items with her in case she finds Lil’ Bit, or any other small dogs that have vanished.

“They’re picking small dogs, sometimes it’s in the street,” Allawat said. “Sometimes they go in the yard.”

Just this past Saturday, Chris Radford’s two Frenchies, Charlie and Murphy, disappeared from near his front yard as he was preparing for his son’s birthday party.

“I was looking for my dogs neighbor comes out from down the street and says, ‘Hey are you looking for some dogs,’ and I said, ‘Yes,’” Radford said. “He said, ‘Well the DoorDasher just put two dogs in his car just now.’”

Charlie and Murphy are a part of their family, especially for his daughter.

“She has special needs and all she does is ask where her dogs are at, and it just bothers us and getting really hard without them,” Radford said.

Radford isn’t alone. Robin Lucas owns a Frenchie named Chloe. Chloe was last seen on March 5 on the east side. Radford is worried there’s more.

“I know it’s hard out here, and I’m not trying to get no one in trouble,” Radford said. “If you know, you could contact me or anybody. We can make something work to where this can go away. We can get our dogs back and everybody can be happy.”

While they wait for their Frenchies to come back again, Allawat continues her fight.

“I want my dog back, and I will not give up. It’s not just about Lil’ Bit. It’s about all the Yorkies. It’s about all those people that had their pets ripped away from him by criminals.

Tony Stewart may have left NASCAR, but the racing world is still dealing with his fierce and competitive nature. Last weekend, Stewart won his first career NHRA Top Fuel dragster race in Las Vegas. It was an amazing scene as the three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion continued his work as the substitute driver for his wife, Leah Pruett, as they recently started a family.

Following his massive victory in Las Vegas, Stewart was asked about the idea of a return to IndyCar for an Indianapolis 500 during a Tuesday video conference. According to Stewart, he believes making the race and having a solid showing would be realistic, but doesn’t think he has what it takes to compete.

“The last time I was in an IndyCar was 2001, so 20 plus years now,” Stewart said. “To go there and even think that I’m going to be competitive is, in my opinion, very unrealistic. Do I feel like I could make the race and have a solid showing? I do feel like I could do that, but I don’t feel like I have what it takes. These guys are so good in these cars and have such a good feel and read on what these cars are and what the car needs. I don’t feel like I would have that input to give to the team to help…to have a winning car. The only way I’m going back to the Indy 500 is if I feel I have a shot to win the Indy 500…I don’t think I’d be capable because of seat time. Just don’t think it’s in my cards.”

Many have pushed for Stewart to make one more attempt at the Indianapolis 500 after coming up short several times, but he doesn’t think it’s in the cars for him anymore. The former NASCAR owner might be competing in NHRA for the time being, but a return to the Indianapolis 500 seems very unlikely.
