3 things Colts must improve before returning for training camp

This seems like something that should be inevitable, but it hasn’t happened yet. After losing Stephon Gilmore and Brandon Facyson this offseason, and likely losing Isaiah Rodgers Sr. to a suspension, the Colts cornerback room consists mostly of first and second-year players.

Indianapolis selected three corners in the 2023 NFL Draft: Julius Brents, Darius Rush, and Jaylon Jones. Indy also has Dallis Flowers returning for his second season. As a rookie, Flowers contributed mostly as a returner, but had a few snaps at corner as well.

For all we know, this young group of corners could be elite. The NFL has recently seen teams be successful with young secondaries. However, are the Colts really going to take that gamble when so many veteran cornerbacks are available? It’s not a risk they should take unless they are sure the rookies will come to play.

If Indy is ready to add a veteran cornerback, they have plenty of solid options to choose from. Marcus Peters is the best available, and is a sure starter in the NFL. However, even if Indy wants a veteran that could be a backup and mentor the young corners, there are several free agents that fit that description as well.
