IPS names Teacher of the Year winners

INDIANAPOLIS (Inside INdiana Enterprise) — Indianapolis Public Colleges has named two Instructor of the Yr winners for 2022. The district says it’s the first time there have been two winners representing the elementary college and secondary college classes.

DaMeisha Fleming, a primary grade instructor at James Whitcomb Riley Faculty 43, earned the award within the elementary college class. She has beforehand taught fourth and fifth grades, and IPS says she additionally coaches sports activities and tutors college students.

Paige Sjoerdsma teaches center college English Language Arts at Butler Lab Faculty 55 and obtained the award within the secondary college class. She beforehand taught kindergarten by third grades and is a founding member of the IPS/Butler Lab Faculty’s Racial Fairness Crew.

“Sjoerdsma and Fleming characterize the district’s finest in efficient instructing, wonderful instruction, and excellent accomplishments within the class,” IPS Superintendent Dr. Aleesia Johnson stated in written remarks.

The winners have been nominated by their respective principals and chosen by a committee of friends.
