Free fishing weekend ahead for Indiana

This weekend kicks off a nationwide fishing and boating week, with free fishing days taking place all around the nation.

Usually, anglers pay $23 for an annual Indiana fishing cross and $11 for trout and salmon stamps. However this weekend, these charges are waived for fishing on public waters.

Anglers can catch fish like bluegill, crappie catfish, massive and smallmouth bass, white bass, trout and salmon.

Cindy Stites is Wildlife Recreation Program Supervisor with the Indiana Division of Pure Sources. She mentioned extra Hoosiers getting hooked on fishing is nice for conservation. The charges pay for conservation efforts.

“We wish to get extra individuals outside. We would like extra individuals to benefit from the exterior areas, public lands, public water in Indiana, need them to be extra concerned in what conservation is in our state,” Stites mentioned.
