Statewide tour promoting mental health resources for farmers

Legislators and medical professionals are touring the state to advertise psychological well being consciousness for farmers.

As a part of Psychological Well being Consciousness Month, Jerry Costello II, director of the Illinois Division of Agriculture, is touring across the state via Could 18 to advertise the Farm Household Useful resource Initiative. He can be accompanied by representatives of Southern Illinois College College of Drugs, College of Illinois Extension, native lawmakers and psychological well being professionals.

The FFRI was began in 2019 by SIU College of Drugs. The pilot program offered Christian, Logan, Macon, Macoupin, Morgan, and Sangamon counties with a phone hotline farmers might use to connect with psychological well being sources.

The initiative expanded in 2021 to all if Illinois’ 102 counties. The most recent state legislative session offered it with $500,000 to increase its providers into 2023.

“The Farm Household Useful resource Initiative supplies academic alternatives and a helpline to assist the wants of our farm households,” SIU College of Drugs Dean and Provost Jerry Kruse stated. “It’s simply one of many ways in which SIU SOM is fulfilling its rural well being mission for social accountability in central and southern Illinois.”
