Illinois to expand wastewater testing for COVID, other pathogens

CHICAGO (CBS) — In an effort to cease the following COVID-19 outbreak earlier than it begins, Illinois is increasing its wastewater testing program.

In partnership with the College of Illinois Discovery Companions Institute, the Illinois Division of Public Well being mentioned it would choose 20 Okay-12 colleges throughout Illinois participate in a 25-week pilot program.

The faculties can be each elementary and center colleges in city, suburban, and rural areas.

Samples can be collected from the colleges’ sewer techniques twice per week – and can then be analyzed for COVID and influenza DNA.
