Hoon Retirement Reception Scheduled for July 11

MACOMB, IL – A reception to honor retiring Western Illinois College Faculty of High-quality Arts and Communication Interim Dean William “Buzz” Hoon can be held at 3 p.m. Monday, July 11 within the College Union Lamoine Room.

Hoon started working at WIU in 1991, instructing in WIU’s Division of Broadcasting and Journalism, and directing the division’s sports activities broadcasting program. He grew to become chair of the Division of Broadcasting and Journalism in 2013, and was named affiliate dean of the Faculty of High-quality Arts and Communication in 2018. He was first named the interim dean of COFAC in July 2018, when William “Billy” Clow was named WIU’s interim provost. He served within the interim submit a second time from July 2021 till this month.

Along with his tutorial work, Hoon created, hosted and produced two video podcasts highlighting the work of program alumni, known as, “The ‘Necks Chapter,” and “Alumni Chats.” He additionally developed a program with ESPN to spotlight Athletics at WIU, and to collect invaluable expertise for broadcasting and journalism college students.

After retiring from WIU, Hoon will develop into dean of the Faculty of Arts and Letters at Austin Peay State College in Clarksville, TN.

Hoon acquired his bachelor’s diploma in communication arts and sciences from WIU in 1986; his grasp’s diploma in public communication and broadcasting from WIU in 1991, and his doctoral diploma in mass communication and media arts from Southern Illinois College in Carbondale, IL, in 2005.
