Contract reached to fund ferry linking Kentucky, Illinois

MARION, Ky. (AP) — A brand new contract has been reached to proceed service by the Cave-in-Rock Ferry, the Kentucky Transportation Cupboard stated.

The ferry connects Kentucky 91 in Crittenden County with Illinois 1 in Hardin County, Illinois, carrying some 500 automobiles every day over the Ohio River. Its common operation schedule runs from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day, the cupboard stated.

The $3.3 million contract lasts till June 30, 2024. The ferry is funded collectively by the cupboard and the Illinois Division of Transportation.

Marion gives the closest full-service grocery for a lot of residents of Hardin County, the cupboard stated. The ferry serves as a vacationer attraction, and it additionally hyperlinks mountaineering and outside actions in southern Illinois’ Shawnee Nationwide Forest with the Amish neighborhood of Crittenden County, the cupboard stated.
