CHAMPAIGN — The Community Foundation of East Central Illinois is in the market for a new CEO as Angie Hatfield Marker, who has been president and CEO since July 2021, has announced her resignation.
Marker said she’ll be going to work next month as director of development for the eastern region of the Carle Health Center for Philanthropy.
“It was a really good opportunity for me, professionally and personally, and one I couldn’t pass up,” she said.
She also plans to remain on at the foundation for a month to help with the transition, she said.
The 42-year-old Champaign native joined the foundation — a publicly supported, tax-exempt philanthropic organization — in 2018.
Before becoming president and CEO, she served as vice president of development and director of development.
Before joining the foundation, she served as director of development and communications at Crisis Nursery.
In announcing Hatfield’s resignation, the foundation’s board noted that in the past five years, it has experienced record amounts of new gifts and contributions and increased its assets by more than 68 percent to $32 million.
“Angie’s dedication to our mission and unwavering commitment to making a difference in East Central Illinois certainly leaves a lasting legacy at the foundation,” board Chair Mark Palmer said.
Also in the past five years, the foundation has established 100 new funds, secured another $30 million in planned estate gifts and other expectations and grown its grant-making considerably, the board’s statement said.
The foundation distributed a record $1.6 million in grants and scholarships to nonprofit partners last year.
Marker said she’s enjoyed her work with the foundation and working with its many generous donors, partners and staff.
In her new role with Carle, she said, she’s thrilled to be remaining in the local community.
“I love this community and I never want to leave,” she said.
The foundation’s board of trustees has launched a search for a new CEO, and said it’s committed to finding a dynamic leader with a deep understanding of the community’s needs who can build on the strong foundation established by Marker.
Among the requirements in a lengthy job posting are a bachelor’s degree, with an advanced degree preferred; 12-plus years of progressively responsible experience in the private, public or nonprofit sectors; and residency in the foundation’s service area of Champaign, Coles, Douglas, Edgar, Ford, Iroquois, Moultrie, Piatt and Vermilion counties.
The minimum starting salary for the new CEO is $112,000.
