Ypsilanti woman charged in fatal shooting at Detroit baby shower
(CBS DETROIT) – A woman accused of shooting another woman in Detroit earlier this month is charged, and the victim’s son is also charged for striking the suspect with his car, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office said.
Prosecutors say Shawanda Woods, 44, of Ypsilanti, is charged with second-degree murder and felony firearm. She was arraigned and remanded to jail. She is scheduled to appear for a probable cause conference on Nov. 1.
Prosecutors say on Oct. 15, Woods allegedly shot 44-year-old Phebian Williams, of Detroit, at a baby shower in the 15600 block of Edmore Drive. Authorities say Woods and Williams got into an argument, and Woods pulled out a gun and shot Williams in the neck.
Williams was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detroit police say Woods drove to the Detroit Police Department’s Ninth Precinct. As she got out of the car, she was struck by a car driven by Williams’ son, 36-year-old Leandre Devon Love.
Love was taken into custody and was charged with assault with intent to murder and felonious assault. He was arraigned and given a $100,000 personal bond. His next hearing is scheduled for Oct. 26.
