Family searching for answers as father’s body goes missing after shooting on Detroit’s west side
DETROIT – The family of Jermaine Fairley is desperate to know what happened to him after he was reportedly shot on Detroit’s west side over the weekend.
His mother, Tamika Fairley, says she received a call at 2:30 p.m., Saturday (Jan. 27). When she arrived at the scene at Wildemere Street and Puritan Avenue, she found “A pile of blood,” and even more blood “going up the side of [a nearby] house,” Fairley.
Tamika believes the blood belonged to Jermaine even though there was no sign of him. Even more concerning, his car was found burning near an abandoned building five miles away.
She says Jermaine, who lived down the street from where he is believed to have been shot, was hanging out at the home with friends following a repass.
Those friends aren’t talking.
“He got shot with a bunch of people here, everyone just up, left, fled the scene, ran off,” Tamika said.
The 28-year-old father of five is still missing, and his family has been searching all over.
“We’ve been looking everywhere, abandoned houses, buildings, empty fields, lots,” said Jermaine’s cousin, Michelle Scott.
They’re asking everyone to keep an eye out.
Detroit Police says the Major Crimes Division is investing. Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak-Up.
