Detroit’s 313 area code running out of unassigned numbers

(WXYZ) — A brand new space code, 679, could quickly be coming to Detroit and its surrounding areas. 

The Michigan Public Service Fee plans to carry a public listening to in Detroit in March on a proposal for the overlay space code. In accordance with a press launch from the MPSC, Detroit’s 313 space code is on monitor to expire of unassigned cellphone numbers in 2025. 

The general public listening to is scheduled for March 9 from 1:30 to three p.m. on the Frank Hayden Neighborhood Room #236 at Wayne County Neighborhood Faculty District’s downtown campus. 

The MPSC experiences that the brand new code would “cowl the identical geographic territory of the 313 space code, with out splitting the present space code boundaries or requiring a change of numbers for current cellphone customers by transferring current 313 telephones to a brand new space code.“
