MIAMI – Ohio is home to dozens of higher learning institutions, ranging from small to big, public to private, providing plenty of options for prospective students to choose from.

But which city in Ohio is the most educated? Here’s a hint: It’s the same city that’s home to more than 65,000 college students across its more than 1,600-acre campus – Ohio State University.

Columbus, Ohio, is the most educated city in the Buckeye State and 42nd overall most educated city in the U.S., according to a recent report from WalletHub.

WalletHub’s report, 2023′s Most & Least Educated Cities in America, ranked the top 150 largest metropolitans across the U.S. in terms of education level. A total of nine Ohio metro areas made the list.

After Columbus at No. 42, Cincinnati was the next most educated city in Ohio, placing second in Ohio and No. 66 in the U.S., according to the rankings.

Cleveland, meanwhile, fared in the middle of the rankings both in Ohio and nationally. The Land ranked 85th out of 150 U.S. metro areas in terms of education level, making it for fifth-best among the nine Ohio cities on the list.

WalletHub conducted its rankings by measuring and weighing a number of categories, including share of adults 25 and older with a high school degree, some college, experience, an associate’s degree, a bachelor’s degree, or a graduate or professional degree. The rankings also considered the quality of public school systems, the average quality of universities, the racial and gender education gaps, and more.
