ARLINGTON, Texas — Jack Sawyer needed a week to think about it after his massive Cotton Bowl performance, but Friday he let Ohio State football fans know his intentions for next season.

The defensive end announced on social media he will return to the Buckeyes for a fourth season. He becomes the second headlining member of the defensive line to announce he is putting off the NFL Draft, joining defensive tackle Tyleik Williams.

Both Sawyer and Williams used some version of the phrase “Reload the clip” to announce their decision to play a fourth season. Ohio State still awaits decisions from another third-year edge rusher, J.T. Tuimoloau, and veteran tackle Ty Hamilton. Tackle Mike Hall Jr. announced he is entering the draft.

Prior to the Cotton Bowl, Sawyer said it was “more than likely” he would play his fourth season, but he would not make an announcement before the game. He then went out and played perhaps the best game of his career with three sacks of Missouri quarterback Brady Cook.

That continued a trend that carried throughout the second half of the season. He finished with 48 tackles (10 for loss), a team-high 6.5 sacks, three hurries, two pass breakups and two fumbles forced.

His overall Pro Football Focus grade of 89.9 led all OSU defensive players and ranked seventh nationally among all edge defenders.
