Officials identify teen killed in Friday night Dead Man’s Curve crash in Cleveland

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Officials have identified a 19-year-old who was killed in a late Friday night crash at Dead Man’s Curve in downtown Cleveland.

Ryleigh Schmitz, 19, of Brook Park, died in the crash that happened about 10:15 p.m. Friday on Interstate 90 at Dead Man’s Curve, according to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner and Cleveland police.

Schmitz was riding a motorcycle east on Ohio 2 when she tried to merge onto I-90 near Dead Man’s Curve, drove through the painted median and crashed into a semi-tractor trailer, police said.

Police are still investigating what caused the crash. The driver of the semi-tractor trailer did not suffer injuries, police said.
