PENINSULA, Ohio (WOIO) – People were ready for Ohio to turn into a winter wonderland at ski slopes in the Cleveland area.

With so many schools canceling for the storm, families took to the hills.

“It’s a little bit of a smoother ride, so it’s a lot of fun,” said Patrick, one of the many skiers out at Boston Mills.

Hundreds were at Boston Mills Friday, hitting the slopes and enjoying the fresh snow.

The people there said the real stuff gets less icy and makes for a smoother ride.

General manager Jake Campbell says they were ready and waiting for the snow.

“It’s incredible out here; schools are closed, but we are open, and conditions are great,” said Campbell. “As you can see there’s families coming out, enjoying this great snow that we have, it’s a special place.”

As Campbell noted, families comprised a large portion of the crowd, many looking to pass the winter sport on to the next generation.

“I brought my son out to ski. It’s his first time on the slopes, and I’m hoping he picks it up,” said Patrick.

Many added poor driving conditions did not keep anyone from making the trip.

Campbell says staff are hitting the roads early all weekend to ensure they keep regular hours.
