CLEVELAND, Ohio – A man lost parts of his hand while shooting off fireworks in the city’s Detroit Shoreway neighborhood on the Fourth of July.

Cleveland police said the 40-year-old man was injured in the 4900 block of Herman Ave. on Tuesday. Paramedics responded to the scene and transported him to MetroHealth Medical Center.

Over the holiday weekend, from July 1 through 4, Cleveland Division of Fire responded to 37 incidents, which included 34 fires and three explosions.

Spokesman Lt. Mike Norman said the department could not specify whether incidents were caused by fireworks but said the holiday weekend is typically busy because of people celebrating Independence Day.
