Incoming college freshman can score a free six-pack of cookies from Insomnia Cookies.

To celebrate back-to-school season, Insomnia Cookies is giving away 30,000 free six-packs to incoming college freshmen in the Class of 2030 through Sept. 14, while supplies last.

Students need to sign up for Insomnia Rewards, add their school information and show a valid student ID when picking up their free cookies.

ASHTABULA COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) – President Donald Trump landed at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport around 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday to attend the final day of the Freedom 250 Patriot Games, a White House-backed national athletic competition held at the SPIRE Academy.

The event features one male and one female athlete from every state, U.S. territory, and tribal nation. The two winners each receive $125,000 in scholarship prize money.

Events include Tug-of-War, dodgeball, an obstacle course, and the 100-meter dash.

President Trump spoke about the pride surrounding these athletes.

“Love of their country and our great country and our country has never been better,” Trump said.

Township prepares for the visit

Harpersfield trustees worked to prepare the community ahead of the presidential visit, coordinating volunteers to plant flowers and display flags throughout the township.

“So just a lot of people working together just to make the area look amazing. And I think we really pulled it off,” said Lisa Linehan, a Harpersfield Township trustee.

Linehan said the effort reflects community pride and a desire to welcome visitors from across the country.

“It’s Harpersfield and we love our community and we’ve had a lot of community volunteers help us and there’s just been a lot of pride in what we can showcase to the people that are coming from all over the country,” Linehan said.

First official presidential visit

Trump visited Spire Academy during the 2016 campaign, but trustees said Tuesday’s appearance marks the first time a sitting president has made an official visit to Harpersfield.

“It’s something remarkable to have a president, no matter who he or she is, be here in your own town. And for me, it’s not necessarily about that. It’s about how Harpersfield can represent itself and how we can make the people that are coming here feel welcome,” Linehan said.

Ohio State Highway Patrol is advising drivers to avoid the area if travel there is not necessary, citing expected crowds.

TROY TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Ohio was supposed to be just a rest stop for Danielle Wilburn and her two daughters.

Instead, she’s staying with her 6-year-old daughter at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, recovering from a car crash that killed her 13-year-old daughter.

Troopers detailed how a black Nissan sedan collided into Wilburn’s silver Mitsubishi along Route 422 in Troy Township at around 12:30 a.m. Saturday. It’s a stretch of roadway east of where the main highway ends.

“The car hit us so hard it knocked out the engine,” Wilburn said.

Lauren Braxton, 13, died in the crash and Journee Wilburn-Boston, 6, is currently paralyzed and trying to regain feeling in her legs, according to her mother. Both were asleep in the car at the time of the crash.

“She was only 13, and the last thing she said to me was, ‘I’m just so ready to go home and lay down.’ We were in Ohio, and I’m, ‘Alright, baby, we got six more hours to get home,’” Wilburn said.

Danielle Wilburn is recovering from several broken vertebrae and says 6-year-old Journee has just regained her ability to eat. Danielle Wilburn hopes that Journee can regain her ability to walk in the future.

“I just started walking yesterday,” Wilburn said.

Police arrested 28-year-old Jaisean Gambill, who faces charges including aggravated vehicular homicide and aggravated vehicular assault. Troopers say drugs and alcohol are suspected of being a contributing factor in the crash.

Now, after she reached out to News 5 unsolicited, Wilburn wants her story to serve as a warning to others.

“Drinking and driving — I want them to know that everything can end in a split second,” she said. “If you’re used to drinking and driving, stop it. Just don’t do it. You just never know what can happen. You don’t ever know when your life may change behind that wheel. You never know.”

Gambill is due in court on Tuesday.

“Part of me has ended, and part of me is gone,” Danielle Wilburn said. “I never get to see my baby again.”
