Garfield Heights police chase ends in fiery crash on I-77; at least 3 people hurt

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – 19 News has learned that a Garfield Heights police chase involving a homicide suspect ended in a fiery crash Wednesday on I-77 in Cleveland.

The rollover crash caused a shut down in the northbound lanes of I-77 beyond Fleet Avenue starting at 3:15 p.m.

I-77 reopened about 6:10 p.m.

19 News has learned that Garfield Heights police were chasing a homicide suspect when the driver crashed into the wall and then an uninvolved Kia.

The suspect vehicle, a Jeep, rolled six to eight times, ejecting the suspect. The car caught fire following the crash.

Cleveland EMS confirmed to 19 News that at least three people were hurt and taken to MetroHealth.

Two of those injured, a 35-year-old woman and 25-year-old man, were inside the suspect vehicle.

The 35-year-old woman is in stable condition, and the 25-year-old man in critical condition, according to first responders.

A third victim, a 52-year-old woman, is in stable condition, Cleveland EMS said.
