Crews battle fire, partial collapse at building near downtown Canton
STARK COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) – Canton emergency personnel responded to a fireplace at a vacant manufacturing constructing within the downtown space on Wednesday.
The fireplace exercise on the constructing within the 600 block of sixth St. NE was first reported round 11 a.m.
Canton Division Fireplace Chief Steve Henderson mentioned when crews arrived, hearth and lightweight smoke have been coming from the roof.
Crews then found the hearth had already unfold from the primary flooring to the roof and there have been a number of areas of collapse and holes within the flooring brought on by decay and former fires, mentioned Division Chief Henderson.
As a result of hazardous circumstances within the constructing, Division Chief Henderson mentioned the hearth was fought defensively.
The reason for the hearth stays underneath investigation, however a demolition crew was delivered to the scene to do an emergency tear down of the constructing.
One other witness instructed 19 Information she had “by no means seen such a large hearth like this.”
There have been no occupants within the constructing on the time of the hearth and no reported accidents.
