Cleveland man slain on city’s East Side, police say

CLEVELAND, Ohio – A 29-year-old Cleveland man died after he was shot Thursday on the city’s East Side, police said.

The office of the Cuyahoga County medical examiner identified the man as Dawaun Drake. The shooting happened about 11:45 a.m. on East 65th Street and Bessemer Avenue. Police found Drake inside a vehicle with gunshot wounds to his head and body.

Drake was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police later discovered that Drake was on East 65th Street, and when he stopped at Bessemer Avenue, a dark colored SUV with tinted windows pulled up next to him and someone fired shots at Drake’s vehicle.

No arrests have been made.

Homicide detectives will handle the investigation.
