Kankakee teacher investigated for using racial slur against student, district says
KANKAKEE, Sick. (WLS) — A south suburban faculty district is investigating a trainer for utilizing a racial slur towards a pupil in an incident that was caught on video.
The incident occurred in a classroom at Kankakee Excessive College. College students recorded the interplay, telling directors the trainer used the slur throughout a minor battle with Michael Nelson, who stated he is nonetheless in shock.
“It made me really feel like lower than a Black man, a younger Black man at that, from a small group that is attempting to do probably the most for that group,” Nelson stated.
The superintendent for Kankakee colleges stated they’re disenchanted.
“The trainer has been positioned on paid depart pending a full investigation. As of the tip of the day as we speak, KHS administration have collected statements from the scholars, talked with the scholars within the classroom and reviewed a number of movies,” the district stated in a press release.
